SHAPE Skydivers Update (Updated 17 March 2012)
Weather is warming up, it's time to say blue skies to Javier and John. Javier will be moving on to civilian life in sunny California and John is going on to to become an officer. Good luck to both, but remember as they move on to we need skydivers! Come on out and jump! Blue skies!
Safety Note - Two Out Downplane Emergency Procedure
USPA BSR recommends:
Downplane or pinwheel
a. Disconnect the reserve static line if altitude permits.
b. Cut away the main canopy and steer the reserve to a normal landing.
We are a diverse group, so your training may be different, again, review your procedures.
Safety Note - Exit Order
There has been plenty of confusion at the DZ on who gets out first. Here's a great link showing why freeflyers should exit AFTER bellyfliers.
Safety Note - Downsizing
A few of us are getting onto newer kit and some are looking to downsize to faster canopies. Here's a link to Brian Germains' Downsizing Chart. It has some excerpts from "The Parachute and it's Pilot" which is also a good read. |
